Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Christopher Ward box and Papers. The watch comes paired on its original Christopher War tropic 22mm rubber strap with a signed buckle. The watch is from July 2021 and is sold in worn condition, however, overall as you can see the watch is in great condition like new. The watch comes with the manufacturer's warranty.

The Watch

Founded in 2005 by Mike France, Peter Ellis, and Christopher Ward they started the world's first online-only watch brand. Launched from a converted chicken shed on a farm in Berkshire. Soon after the launch of the brand Dave Malone was a Tasmanian lecturer and watches expert. When he saw the press ad for a watch powered by an ETA 2824–2 automatic movement, he decided to buy one. He planned to write a critical review on the world’s largest watch forum, Timezone.com. Fortunately for Christopher Ward, his review was most complimentary. Stating the watch was the “best value mechanical watch in the world”. Sales immediately spiked and Christopher Ward became firmly established. After receiving such high praise in the industry and from collectors in 2008 they began work with assistance from a Swiss watchmaking company: Synergies Horlogères. Based in Biel, Switzerland. SH was owned and led by Jörg Bader who had the same vision Christopher Ward had on designing a new movement. After many years of design and development, July 2nd, 2014 saw the announcement to an astounding watch industry of their own in-house movement, Calibre SH21, the first commercially viable mechanical movement from a British watch brand in over 50 years.

Here we have a 2021 Christopher Ward C65 Divetimer Special Edition of 150 pieces. Launched on the 1st July  2021 where it sold out in 24 hours. The 41mm brushed and polished stainless steel case curves over your wrist with tapered lugs. A lug to lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. Taking its design cues from the 1960s decompression dive watches from the likes of MIDO and later in the 1970s Vulcain Cricket. On the right side is a signed screw-down crown. The unidirectional dive bezel has a blue insert. A domed sapphire crystal sits above the striking blue and orange ringed dial Applied rectangle indexes coated in SuperLumiNova mark the hours. Four rings of alternating blue and orange have the all-important timings for decompression where a diver stops for a set time to remove the chance of the “Bends” where nitrogen dissolved under high pressure in the bloodstream normally through the process of respiration forms bubbles in the blood when the pressure decreases too rapidly. These bubbles can be lethal. Long baton hands coated in SuperLumiNova complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand with the characteristic Trident counterweight. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the Trident motif embossed in the center. Inside a Manually Wound Sellita SW210, 19 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on its 22mm blue tropic rubber strap. The watch comes with its Christopher Ward presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

This is such a fantastic limited edition of 150 pieces by Christopher Ward featuring a unique and interesting dial with the Divetimer! You can find out exactly how to use the dial, but for me, it just looks awesome. All this paired in a well-propertioned case with a screw-down crown and a manually wound movement, it ticks all the boxes, if I were you I'd pick it up along with a bracelet from Christopher Ward and you've got yourself a little gem!
