The Watch

Here we have a 2021 Baltic Bicompax Pulso for Rake & Revolution Salmon. Revolution is a quarterly publication about luxury mechanical watches. It was founded by Wei Koh and first published in 2005, and The Rake is a luxury e-commerce platform dedicated to style, which was founded in 2008 by Wei. The watch was initially created as a unique piece that was auctioned off for The Pink Dial Project, which benefitted Breast Cancer Charities. As their first collaboration, the watch is limited to 242/250 pieces, the 36.5mm 316L stainless steel case gently curves over your wrist with tapered drilled lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 45.5mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm ensure a comfortable fit. Down the right side, we have the chronograph pushers and, in the centre, a large crown. The smooth bezel holds a domed hesalite crystal above the star of the show, a salmon sector dial with circular patterning and a sandy texture, the dial comprises an outer pulsometer that is finely printed, an inner minute track, and two registers of small seconds and 30 minutes. The dial is perfectly balanced, with the contrasting black inner circle with batons marking the hours. Steel leaf hands complemented by a lollipop counterweighted chronograph hand complete this vintage-inspired Contemporary Bi-Compax, and at 6 o’clock we have an applied star. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with Rake & Revolution engraved in the centre, inside a manually wound Seagull ST 1901, 21 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes paired with its Baltic 20mm leather strap and also comes with its Baltic presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

The perfect collaboration between Baltic & The Revolution/Rake, this 36.5mm Bicompax Pulso features a striking salmon dial and a wrist presence inspired by vintage chronographs from a bygone era most of us can only dream of acquiring. For the money, this really is hard to beat so don't hesitate to snap it up today whilst you can!

The Brand

Ettiene Malec, a Frenchman, founded Baltic in 2017. The name comes from his father’s birthplace in northern Poland near the Baltic Sea. His inspiration came after finding a suitcase full of his late father's watches and a notebook full of details about the watches. Soon after, he started to meet other collectors and collect himself. Then, seeing the huge interest in vintage timepieces, he completed a Kickstarter campaign with the Baltic HMS 001 and a Bi-Compax 001. Each watch is hand-assembled in France near Besançon. Today, the brand continues to grow through its social media presence and its website, offering contemporary, designed vintage-inspired timepieces.
