Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original CWC box and CWC paperwork. The watch comes paired with a 20mm NATO. The watch is from April 2019 and is sold in worn condition, but overall great condition as you can see.  The watch comes with our 12-month warranty.

The Watch

CWC (Cabot Watch Company) was founded by Mr. Ray Mellor in 1972. He was formerly Contracts director of Hamilton Watch. He quickly secured contracts to supply the British MOD and has supplied them many thousands of watches. In1996 on Ray’s retirement he sold the company to Silvermans Ltd who sold CWC watches to the public, since that time and due to the increased costs of producing watches in Switzerland, the British MOD requirements of buying cheap has meant they have ceased using Silvermans.

Here we have a 2019 CWC "6BB" Reissue Chronograph Special Edition. Originally issued to the RAF in the 1970s. Three other companies produced the same spec of the watch, Hamilton, Newmark, and Precista. The 38.5mm brushed stainless steel case curves over your wrist with tapered fixed lugs. On the right side is a recessed screw-down crown. A stepped bezel holds a domed acrylic crystal above a black dial. An outer minute track with lume pips and Arabic numerals for the hours. At 12 and 6 the numerals are slightly larger. At 3 o’clock a 30-minute register and at 9 o’clock a 60-second register. Staying true to the original, the Bi-Compax chronograph is nicely balanced and treated with Tritium luminance. Sword hands coated in the same lume with a chronograph hand complete the dial. In the center, we have the Broad Arrow (pheon) signifying a British military issue, British government property. Below the CWC at 12 o’clock we have the “T” in a circle which indicates Tritium. On the reverse a screw-down case back. Inside a Manually Wound Modified 7760, 17 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The movement was modified by removing the day-date functionality that it originally had. The watch comes on a 20mm NATO strap. The watch comes with its CWC presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

This is the perfect CWC for the person who loves their design and history but doesn't want to take the risk involved with vintage by buying a CWC 6BB, I get it... This ticks all the same boxes but with the modern build quality and reliability, plus you don't have to spend a lot of time researching what's original and what's not and dive into the deep end!
