The Watch

Here we have a 2016 Hamilton Khaki King H644550 with a brushed 40mm brushed stainless steel case that curves over your wrist with thick tapered lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 49.5mm and a case thickness of 11mm ensuring a comfortable fit. On the right side is a signed crown protected by crown guards. A polished smooth bezel holds a sapphire crystal above a black sector-style dial, an outer minute chapter ring with lume pips and a concentric circle pattern is precisely executed, adding interest to the dial, surrounding large 12-hour Arabic numeral indices marking the hours above smaller 24-hour numerals, a nod to its military heritage, at 12 o’clock we have the large day crescent above a smaller date window, elegant syringe style hands filled with Super-LumiNova are complemented by an arrow pointed sweeping second hand completing this versatile military-inspired timepiece. On the reverse a screw-down exhibition case back showcasing the automatic ETA, 25 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour, with a modified skeletonised signed rotor and hacking seconds. The watch comes paired with a Hamiton 20mm 3-link brushed stainless steel bracelet with a button-released signed folding clasp and will fit up to a 6.9-inch wrist, sold with its Hamilton presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

The Hamilton Khaki King in 40mm has been a watch that most collectors at some point in their collecting cycle have owned as it offers incredible value for its design and build quality, plus you can really wear them and not worry about them as they are built to last and this model I have for sale is case in point! I'd personally take this one and throw it on a NATO or a nice leather strap and continue to enjoy and wear it for many years to come.

The Brand

In 1892 Hamilton was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and began producing pocket watches, their focus has always been to make accurate affordable timepieces. In 1914, they became an official supplier to the U.S. Armed Forces during WWI, and they shifted production from pocket watches to the more convenient wristwatch. In 1926 Admiral Richard E. Byrd became the first aviator to reach the North Pole, circling it for 13 minutes before returning to base. He timed this pioneering 15-hour and 57-minute flight with a Hamilton watch. As soon as America joined the Allied forces in World War 2 they stopped producing watches for consumers to focus on the enormous task of supplying the U.S. Armed Forces, they produced over one million timepieces including wristwatches and marine chronometers, even earning an Army-Navy E award for excellence in manufacturing.
