The Watch
Here we have a 2008 Credor Seiko Signo Ultra-Thin Quartz GCAR051 with a curvaceous polished 32mm stainless steel case that delicately curves over your wrist thanks to the thin, sculpted lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 36mm and a case thickness of an incredibly thin 5mm ensures a comfortable fit. On the right side, a domed cabochon inset crown. The polished bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal above a stunning dial in a golden hue; a minute track has applied gold-toned baton indexes marking the hours that magically play with the light as you rotate your wrist. Gold-toned sword hands sit majestically in the centre, complemented by a tapered second hand; at 12 o’clock, we have the applied Credor motif and Credor Seiko printed underneath, completing this sophisticated dress watch. On the reverse, a snap-off brushed stainless steel case is back with the details of the watch engraved inside a quality high precision Quartz Credor Cal. 8J81 movement. The watch comes paired with its original Credor 17mm leather strap and polished pin buckle and comes with its Credor presentation box and paperwork.
Personal Note
I find it impossible to believe you can buy a Credor for well under £500, this Credor Seiko Signo Ultra-Thin Quartz, reference GCAR051, is not only well under £500, it also comes with its box and paperwork, original strap, the sticker still on the back and looks like it has been worn once or twice. I would not hesitate to add this beautiful gem to your collection today!
The Brand
Seiko, with the success of the Grand Seiko quartz line in 1974, decided to create another luxury line called “Crêt D’or.” The term in English translates to Gold Crest, which was used to describe the top of the mountain. Later, in 1978, they produced their first catalogue and renamed the brand Credor, a combination of the original name. In 1980, they produced the world's thinnest movement at just under 1mm thick. Since then, Credor has been free to pursue exotic watchmaking, the likes of which we associate companies like Vacheron Constantin with A. Lange & Sohne.
