The Watch

Here, we have a 2007 TAG Heuer Formula 1 Orange Chronograph CAH1113 with a brushed 40.5mm stainless steel muscular-shaped case with covered lugs that curve over your wrist for a comfortable fit. The watch's lug-to-lug length of 44mm and case thickness of 12.5mm give it an impressive wrist presence. Down the right side, we have the ramp-shaped chronograph pushers in black and a black signed crown protected by crown guards. On the left side, the "TAGHeuer" is engraved and painted black. A broad black-painted unidirectional bezel has deep knurling and large embossed silver painted 60-minute numerals holding a flat sapphire crystal above a vibrant orange dial. An outer minute track surrounds applied steel sloping indexes tipped with lume marking the hours, between the 3 and 4 a date window, at 3 o’clock a silver 1/10th of a second register, orange hand, at 6 o’clock a silver ringed small seconds, white hand and finally at 9 o’clock a silver 30-minute register, orange hand, brushed steel sword hands filled with lume are complemented by a white tapered chronograph hand, at 12 o’clock we have the TAG Heuer motif, “TAG Heuer Formula 1” and “Professional 200m” completes this sports chronograph. On the reverse is a screw-down solid case back with the chequered flag TAG Heuer motif and details of the watch engraved inside a Quartz movement. The watch comes paired with its brushed 20mm TAG Heuer 3-link chunky stainless steel bracelet and a signed flip-lock folding clasp; all links are provided, and it also comes with its TAG Heuer presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

With the recent Kith x TAG Heuer collaboration watches interest in earlier, colourful, TAG Heuers has increased and I have already since sold a few and see this continuing. This larger 40.5mm Formula 1 features a striking orange dial and a perfectly contrasting bold black bezel. This CAH1113 feels like a step up from the fun 90s pieces and a step into the direction of producing a serious watch, it is interesting to see how the brand evolved over the years and what that looked like. I would not hesitate to add this one to your collection today!

The Brand

Edouard Heuer founded The Heuer Watch Company in 1860 in St. Imier, Switzerland. Chronographs have been the mainstay for Heuer and later TAG Heuer, featuring many models and configurations, expanding the possibilities to the full. In 1958, Jack Heuer, Edouard’s son, joined the company and in 1962, the first generation of Autavia was launched and famously worn in the 1970s by Formula One drivers such as Derek Bell, Jacky Ickx, Emerson Fittipaldi, Clay Regazzoni and Mario Andretti, and many more. In 1999, TAG Heuer accepted a bid from LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton S.A.
