The Watch
Formerly known as the La Generale Watch Co. it was founded by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. In 1903 they renamed the company Omega until 1982 when they officially changed their name to Omega SA. They are part of the Swiss Swatch Group.
Omega first applied "Genève" to its 30mm dress watch dials in 1953. This was to celebrate records set by their watches at the Geneva Observatory. By 1967 the name was put on many more models. They used the same high-quality movements as found in the Seamaster and Dynamic models. Omega targeted the "Genève" towards the younger generation by using textured dials and represented a more value-orientated range. The Calvin factory in Geneva closed in 1972 and the name "Genève" finally disappeared on their dials in 1979. During this period the "Genève" models accounted for 60% of all Omega sales.
Our 1974 Omega "Genève" has a 36mm stainless steel case is satin-brushed finish with rounded lugs that fit the integrated bracelet perfectly. On the right side sits a signed crown. The polished bezel holds the original Omega signed raised flat crystal that protects a white textured dial with subtle vertical patterning. The applied chamfered edged indexes have a lume pip indicating the hours. Chamfered edges on its hands have lume infill. Complemented with a needle sweeping seconds hand. At 3 o’clock a date window. Text is minimal with Omega and "Genève". On the reverse a screw-down case back with the Omega engraved into the center. Inside we have a Manually Wound Omega Cal. 1030, 17 Jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. It was first introduced in 1973 when it replaced the Cal. 613. Fitted on its original integrated Omega bracelet with a satin-brushed finish and a signed folding clasp with 8 micro-adjustments to fit your wrist perfectly.
Personal Note
Integrated bracelets are all the hype at the moment and for good reason, they look fantastic! This is a great Geneve model with an integrated bracelet and beautiful design, perfect for regular wear. These never usually stick around long so I wouldn't hold back too long for this beauty.
