Points of Mention
This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no Certina box or Certina Paperwork. The watch comes paired on a new strap from WatchGecko which suits the watch beautifully. The watch is in worn condition and showing signs of age as you would expect for a watch from 1971. The case has never been polished and maintains its sharp lugs and clean edges, the crown is also the original signed Certina crown. The watch is running well and giving a good reading on the timegrapher, though there is no known service history for the watch. I will provide a 3-month non-waterproof warranty with the watch.
The Watch
Certina was founded in 1888 by Adolf and Alfred Kurth in Grenchen Switzerland. Here they made movements and supplies for the watch industry. Shortly afterwards they started making their own watches and grew their workforce from 3 to 250 in 1938 when they celebrated their 50th Anniversary. By 1955 they had 500 employees and were producing 1000 watches a day. This expansion continued in 1971 where they were producing 600,000 watches every year with a workforce of 900. In 1983 Certina became a member of the Swatch group which they continue to this day. This 34mm stainless steel case has slim lugs with a convenient holes to push out the spring bars on your strap. A domed acrylic crystal covers a silver-coloured linen dial with a crosshatch pattern. The hour indexes are baton in shape with groove detailing. Elegant dauphine hands with lume paint which has patina'd beautifully along with the lume pips on the dial. On the reverse side, we have a screw-down case-back. Inside runs, a Certina manual wound Cal 25-36, 17 Jewels 19,800 beats per hour movement. Fitted on an attractive 18mm leather strap by WatchGecko.
Personal Note
If this were an Omega it would 3 times the price... Thankfully, for you, its an equally beautiful and well-executed Certina! All stainless steel original case in 34mm, linen dial, original hands and lume plots on the dial aged beautifully, original signed crown... It's a real vintage gem, for not an awful lot of money! I really do believe this is what we watch nerds hunt for...
