Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only", meaning it comes with no original Enicar box or original Enicar paperwork. The watch comes paired with a 20mm well-suited aftermarket leather strap and pin buckle. The watch is from Circa. 1970s and it is in worn condition, but it is very good overall, as you can see from the photographs. The watch comes with our 12-Months Non-Waterproof Warranty.

The Watch

Here we have a 1970s Enicar Ultrasonic Mechanical with a 29mm Square Gold-Plated Case with straight lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 38mm and a case thickness of 9.5mm ensures a comfortable fit. On the right side is a gold-plated push/pull crown. A fine bezel holds a domed bevel-edged crystal above a two-tone silver dial, an attractive outer border has applied gilt indexes marking the hours, between the 4 and 5 an off-set date window, elegant gilt hands are complemented by a tapered second hand, at 12 o’clock, we have the Enicar motif, and at 6 o’clock “Star Jewels” completes this sophisticated dress watch. On the reverse, a stainless steel case back, inside a manually wound Enicar Cal. 1141, 17 jewels movement. The watch comes paired with a well-suited 20mm aftermarket leather strap and pin buckle.

Personal Note

I often try to get watches like this in stock to show that really wonderful vintage watches can still be found well under £500, not only that, but they can be unique and stand out from the crowd with a brand name that has some serious pedigree. This 1970s Enicar offers all of that and more, with their own manually wound movement and a case that sits on the wrist beautifully. Do not hesitate to add this watch to your collection today!

The Brand

In 1914, founder Ariste Racine reversed his last name to create the brand “Enicar”. Their headquarters was in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland. Producing high-quality timepieces, European soldiers and railway crews commonly used his readable pocket watches during WWI. A new factory was built in 1930 in Bienne, Switzerland. In 1951, Enicar designed the Sherpa jet watches, which were supplied to the US Air Force during WWII. After the war, the Sherpa Collection entered the Asian market, offering advanced aviation and mountaineering complications. The 1956 Swiss Expedition conquered the summit of Mount Everest, equipped with Enicar chronometers. A member of the team, Ernst Reiss, praised the watch for its exceptional precision in extreme weather conditions. In 2014, Enicar celebrated its 100th anniversary.
