The Watch

In 1892 Hamilton was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and began producing pocket watches, their focus has always been to make accurate affordable timepieces. In 1914, they became an official supplier to the U.S. Armed Forces during WWI, they shifted production from pocket watches to the more convenient wristwatch. In 1926 Admiral Richard E. Byrd became the first aviator to reach the North Pole, circling it for 13 minutes before returning to base. He timed this pioneering 15 hours and 57-minute flight with a Hamilton watch. As soon as America joined the Allied forces in World War 2 they stopped producing watches for consumers to focus on the enormous task of supplying the U.S. Armed Force, they produced over one million timepieces including wristwatches and marine chronometers, even earning an Army-Navy E award for excellence in manufacturing.

Here we have an Unworn 2020 Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer with a 41mm black aluminium cushion case, the case curves over your wrist with tapered lugs and a lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 12mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side at 2 o’clock a recessed crown to rotate the inner bezel, at 3 o’clock a signed crown is recessed in the cushion case. A flat sapphire crystal sits above a black dial, an outer 60-minute chapter ring with 24-hour numerals underneath. The minute track has lume plots at the hours. SuperLumiNova coated Arabic numerals mark the hours and at 3 o’clock a framed date window. Syringe hands coated in SuperLumiNova complemented by a sweeping second hand, the text is precisely printed. On the reverse a screwed-down exhibition case back, inside an automatic Hamilton H-10, 25 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour, based on the ETA C07.611. The watch comes fitted on a black NATO strap with a signed buckle and the watch comes with its Hamilton presentation box and booklet.

We have sold multiple modern Hamilton watches over the years and occasionally a few models find their way to us that I have never seen, not on Instagram or a website, completely fresh to me, this is one of those!
