Louis Erard was born in 1893. In 1929 he founded his watchmaking school and a casing company in La Chaux‑de‑Fonds (Neuchâtel, Switzerland). He named the Company: Louis Erard & André Perret. Production of their first watches began in 1931. In 1956 they obtained permission to manufacture their movements, something only the very best achieved this accolade. For ten years from 1993 until 2003, the company remained closed. In 2003 the company was bought by private investors. Today they continue to expand the boundaries of Horology.
The Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein II Excellence Le Regulateur is a collaboration with the architect and watchmaker Alain Silberstein. This unique-looking piece is a reinterpretation of the brand`s regulator watch. It is the first time in their 90 years, that LOUIS ERARD has given unconditional design power to a designer, while interestingly Alain Silberstein has never before designed a regulator watch. Alain started his brand in 1990, alongside his wife Sylvie. The company specialised in watches inspired by the German Bauhaus movement. With quirky, lavish, and colourful creations. Limited to just 178. The 41.5mm case is made from Microblasted grade 2 titanium & polished grade 5 titanium bars that run along the outside of the case incorporating the lugs. A lug to lug length of 47mm and a thickness of 12mm gives the watch an impressive watch presence. On the right side, a signed crown with a red insert.
The slim bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal above a matte black dial. An outer raised minute track has applied yellow rounded baton indexes marking the 60 minutes. At 12 o’clock, an hourly register with a red triangle, at 6 o’clock, a small seconds register with a wavy yellow lacquered hand while the minute hand is a blue lacquered arrow hand. The signature hands are exclusively designed by Alain Silberstein completing this strikingly different watch dial. On the reverse, a screwed-down exhibition case back with the engraving of the creators and the number out of 178. Inside an Automatic Sellita SW266-1, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The movement has a modified Louis Erard rotor. The watch comes fitted on a 22mm quick-release nylon velcro strap and also comes with its Louis Erard presentation box and papers.
