The Watch
2017 Was the year Seiko decided to seperate the Grand Seiko brand to become its own entity. Therefore having GS at 12o'clock instead of Seiko. This particular watch is the last of the Seiko at 12o'clock Grand Seiko Snowflakes, making this more rare and harder to find! The subtle play of the light on the dial resembles freshly drifted snow. Blued steel dauphine hands, diamond edged indexes shimmer in the light. All created by the craftsmanship at the Shinshu Watch Studio in Shiojiri. Inside we have the innovative Spring Drive movement which is mechanical, but with an electromagnetic escapement regulated by a quartz oscillator. It has 30 jewels and a power reserve of an impressive 72 hours. Its sole power source is the mainspring which drives a series of gears. A rotar connected to the end of htese gears, generates a small electrical charge that activates an electronic circuit and quartz oscillator, therefore it is a true hybrid. The 41mm case and bracelet is made of Titanium with Zaratsu (Blade) polishing giving it razor sharp edges, the same finish famous on Samurai swords. FInishing on the watch is out of this world and truly unrivaled at this price range and even into the prices way above. The screw down case back is Titanium with a sapphire crystal exhibition window showing off the SPring Drive 9R65 movement which is finished with decorative beveling and pattern work giving it a quality feel.
Personal Note
If you are in the market for a Grand Seiko Snowflake, why not go for the reference that will most likely be different to everyone elses? I think we will see big collectibility in the "Seiko" Grand Seiko models! Eitherway it does look cool still saying "Seiko", really adds to the "Stealth" of the piece in my opinion.
