Coggiola Watch Roma was founded by Dr Sebastian Salvadó in 2015, a Southern California native who has roots in both Italy and Spain. Coggiola Watch Roma is named after the maiden name of his grandmother. Since 2005 Dr Salvadó has been creating, repairing and selling one-off custom wristwatches and rare timepieces. Coggiola Watch Roma was founded with the focus on highlighting and making available the precious British Horological movements and other rare vintage timepieces to contemporary watch collectors and enthusiasts. All their watches are handmade without the assistance of computers. Each piece is unique and hand-manufactured in Rome, Italy.
This bespoke timepiece has a 41mm stainless steel case with elegantly curved lugs satin-brushed finished. The flat crystal showcases the enclosed movement with flame blued leaf hands and a sub-seconds hand at 6 o’clock. It's completely without a dial. The emphasis clearly is the movement. This movement was made by P & A Guye. In 1856 Auguste Guye emigrated to London from Geneva, In the 1860s the firm of P. & A. Guye started to sell watches under their own name. This was made around this time. The unusual highly decorated 37mm hand-engraved open-faced hunter movement fits inside its 41mm case. It was made for the retailer Hunt & Roskell who sold superb chronometers in London during the late 1800s. The attention to detail is exquisite. Some of the components are made of brass gold-gilded such as the wheel train with the solid gold escape wheel. Delicate written retailers' names and the swirls on the London highlights the craftsmanship needed to create these timepieces. Fitted on a 22mm ColaReb hand made leather strap.
Points of Mention
This watch is sold as watch only but does come with a nice box and original note by from Coggiola to the original owner. The watch comes paired on as lovely hand made leather strap with original buckle, the original strap is also provided. The watch is in worn condition with a few signs of wear, a few hairline scratches to the case. The watch was originally purchased in March 2018, this is when this movement was finished and put together ready for this watch, due to the age of the movement this is NOT an everyday watch and the movement can be quite fragile.
A truly stunning watch and a great concept, again this watch sold before it even hit the website! A watch for the collectors who want to truly appreciate old movements, but enjoy it on the wrist, but aware of the fact that this cannot be an everyday piece.
