UNIMATIC was born in 2016 to much fanfare. The UNIMATIC Modello Uno is an Italian design, with Swiss asperations. Here we have a collaboration between UNIMATIC and Hodinkee producing a Limited Edition of 500 pieces. Designed and envisioned by Hodinkee in appreciation of the unique Unimatic styling.
The 41mm brushed stainless steel case curves in all the right places. A lug to lug length of 49mm and a thickness of 13mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side, a signed screw-down crown protected by crown guards. Its 120 clicks uni-directional 60-minute dive bezel has a lume pip at 12. A sapphire crystal AR coated sits above a Hodinkee grey dial. An outer minute track, large disc, and baton indexes lume filled with Super-LumiNova C1 White mark the hours. Broad phantom ladder hands filled with the same Super-LumiNova C1 White lume and a grey reverse lollipop second hand with a black tip. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with deep engraving celebrating the collaboration and its number out of 500. Inside an Automatic Sellita SW200-1, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes with a black two-piece TPU 22mm strap and a two-piece nylon 22mm strap both with a signed buckle and also comes with its UNIMATIC tough case and papers.
This is one of my favourite Unimatic releases and I've said it before. I haven't always been totally favourable to Hodinkee, but when it comes to the design of their limited editions they truly know what they are doing and hit it out of the park each time! This is also an important Unimatic for their history as it features the Sellita and moved them into the camp they should always have been in, in my opinion! Great to see them that little bit thinner, you really do feel it on the wrist.
