The Watch
Seikos history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892 Seikosha was established making wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924 the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) was established in 1937. Seiko was listed on the Tokyo stock exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co., Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959).
Here we have a 2021 Seiko Solar Chrono Machina Sportiva SSC769P1 with a brushed 41.5mm stainless steel case. The case curves over your wrist with tapered chamfered lugs. A lug to lug length of 49mm and a thickness of 12.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a deep knurled push/pull crown. The smooth stepped bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal. A white textured dial with a hexagon pattern across it. An outer Tachymeter scale chapter ring. Long applied baton indexes mark the hours. At 3 o’clock a date window. At 12 o’clock we have a 1/20th second register, at 6 o’clock a 60-minute register with Solar printed inside, and finally at 9 o’clock the small second register in a hexagon. Slender sword hands coated in Lumibrite luminescence. Complemented by a tapered chronograph hand. At 3 o’clock an applied Seiko with Chronograph 10 bar printed in black. On the reverser, a screw-down case back. Inside a Quartz Seiko V176 a solar-powered movement that absorbs the light through the array of hexagons on the dial. The watch comes fitted on its original 20mm brushed stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp and the watch comes with its Seiko presentation box and papers.
