The Watch
Damasko is the brainchild of Konrad Damasko, a family-run business founded in 1994. Based in Barbing Germany, they design and manufacture wristwatches. Their cases and movements have accrued several patents over the years. Including patents for super hard alloys used for cases and components. These cases are also supplied to Sinn. Specialising in mechanical watches and chronographs they have redesigned every inch of them. In 2014 they introduced their first in-house movement.
This 2020 Damasko DS 30 has a 39mm bead blasted surface hardened submarine stainless steel case. It has antimagnetic properties, therefore, removing the need for a soft iron cage commonly known as a Faraday cage. A lug to lug length of 47mm and a thickness of 10.5mm gives the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side a screw-down crown made from hardened steel with knurling for extra grip, protected by crown guards. A bead-blasted bezel holds a sapphire crystal with AR coating for excellent viewing angles. The matte black dial has a prominent minute track coated in C1 SuperLuminova. Thicker baton markers indicate the hours. At 3 o’clock a date window. Broadswords hands are complemented by a long tapered sweeping seconds hand all coated in the same C1 SuperLuminova. Text is precisely printed at 12 with the Logo and brand name. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with specifications engraved around the edge in German. Inside an Automatic ETA 2824-2, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. First introduced in 1982 this workhorse of a movement has stood the test of time. The watch comes fitted on its original Damasko 20mm vintage-style leather strap with a signed buckle and comes with its Damasko presentation pouch and papers.
Personal Note
Damasko is super underrated in my opinion, they are where Sinn was a while ago in terms of appreciation and now I think Sinn finally get the respect they deserve, whereas Damasko still has some way to go until people wake up to just how good their watches are and how much value for your money you really get!
