The Watch

Here we have a 2018 Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda Metrographe that was launched in 2014, the polished 40.5mm stainless steel case flows over your wrist with a subtle curve of the thick tapered lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 45.5mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. Down the right side, we have the stepped lozenge-shaped chronograph pushers that sit within the elongated lugs and a signed crown with deep knurling for extra grip. A polished smooth bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal above a black dial, an outer minute track on a textured concentric circular ring with lume pips is precisely executed, dart-shaped Rhodium-plated indexes to mark the hours, in the centre three registers consist of continuous seconds at 3 o'clock slightly recessed, a 12-hour with a large lumed ring and the lower portion cut out to show the date at 6 o’clock and finally a 30-minute with a smaller lumed ring at 9 o’clock, this combination creates a striking contrast to the black dial. Elegant sword hands are infilled with luminance complemented by a tapered chronograph hand and at 12 o’clock we have the Parmigiani Fleurier motif. On the reverse, a screwed-down exhibition case back shows the stunning Parmigiani Cal. PF315, 46 jewels beating at 28,800 beats per hour, comprising 351 components, this in-house Vaucher-based PF331 has a chronograph module produced by Dubois-Depraz, decorated in Cotes de Geneve. The watch comes fitted on its original 23mm polished and brushed stainless steel and titanium bracelet with a signed push button release hidden deployment and the watch comes with its Parmigiani Fleurier presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

Our first Parmigiani in stock and I am very impressed! I've always appreciated their gold dress models, especially the chronographs, but the Tonda I didn't give a huge amount of time and I was very wrong about that! The way this watch wears on the wrist is incredible, especially when you have the watch in hand, it appears to be a very large watch with a considerable bracelet made of both stainless steel & titanium, you think there's no way this will work on the wrist, but it truly does and it looks perfectly at home! This is one to see in person, so book an appointment and come see for yourself.

The Brand

Parmigiani Fleurier was founded in 1996 by Michel Parmigiani  in Val-de-Travers in Fleurier, Switzerland.  The idea goes as far back as 1976 when he restored antique watches where he built a  knowledge base of historical mechanical timepieces. All Parmigiani Fleurier watches are built by hand, taking up to four hundred hours to put together; they are built using only precious materials. In 2006, their Bugatti 370 timepiece was awarded the "Watch of the Year"  by the Japanese Press. The watch is based on the Bugatti Veyron supercar. Their first Bugatti watch was given to car enthusiast Ralph Lauren.
