Rotary Watches Ltd was established in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by Moise Dreyfuss in 1895. By the 1920s family members, Georges and Sylvain Dreyfuss began importing Rotary watches to Britain, which was to become the company's most successful market. René Dreyfuss established Dreyfuss Fils in 1925, which later became Dreyfuss & Co. and produced traditional watches for many years, in 1974 René decided to retire, sadly closing the company's doors. In 2005, Robert Dreyfuss, who was the great-grandson of Moise Dreyfuss reestablished the Dreyfuss & Co. brand incorporating vintage design cues first created by René, all their watches are hand-made in Switzerland and individually numbered.
Here we have a 2018 Dreyfuss & Co. Serial 1924 with a polished and brushed 42mm stainless steel case, elegant screwed-in lugs sitting on the wrist for a comfortable fit, and a lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a signed onion-style crown, a stepped smooth polished bezel that holds a flat sapphire crystal above a textured blue dial. An outer 60-minute chapter ring with yellow numerals surrounding applied Arabic numerals coated in SuperLumiNova marking the hours, at 6 o’clock a date window. Ladder sword hands are infilled with SuperLuiNova complemented by a tapered sweeping second-hand. At 12 o’clock we have the Dreyfuss & Co. motif and at 6 o’clock “Automatique” in yellow completes this vintage-inspired timepiece. On the reverse a screw-down exhibition case back, inside an automatic Sellita SW200-1, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a 21mm leather strap with a signed buckle and also comes with its useful 5-watch presentation watch box and paperwork.
What a fantastic-looking watch for an insane price, the case reminds me of Breguet on a bolder scale and the dial just pops in all angles on the wrist. The box alone truly makes this a great deal as Dreyfuss produces some beautiful boxes, perfect for storing your collection in, and then you just so happen to get a great watch out of it too, what's not to like?
