Seikos history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892 Seikosha was established making wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924 the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) was established in 1937. Seiko was listed on the Tokyo stock exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co., Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959).
The 2017 Seiko Prospex "Golden Turtle" SRPC44 has a 45mm stainless steel cushion case with brushed gold hard coating. A lug to lug length of 47mm and a thickness of 13mm gives the watch an impressive wrist presence. Fitting like a cushion for comfort. On the right side at 4 o’clock a screw-down crown. Unidirectional gold-painted bezel with gold painted 60 minutes scale. A recessed Hardlex crystal protects the matt black dial, lumibrite hour markers outlined in painted gold, syringe hour hand, and broad arrow minute hand outlined in gold colour. Day date window at 3 o’clock position. On the reverse, a stainless steel screw-down case back. Inside we have the workhorse Automatic Seiko Cal. 4R36 with hand winding and hacking functionality. 24 jewels and 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a 22mm silicone strap with a signed buckle and comes with its Seiko presentation box and unsigned papers.
