Hans Wilsdorf founded Rolex in 1905 at the age of 24, along with Alfred Davis in London. In 1919 they moved their operation to Geneva, Switzerland. This move was brought about by high wartime taxes on Gold and Silver in the UK after the Great war 1914-1918. They were now closer to their suppliers in Bienne.
The Rolex Yacht-Master was first introduced in 1992, with a clear aesthetic connection to the Submariner that was designed with Yachting in mind, with a luxury flare. That is exactly what this model provides, everything you love about the Submariner with more personality and charm, a beautifully designed 18ct Everose gold bezel and chocolate dial, striking red GMT hand which contrasts against everything perfectly.
Our 2017 Rolex Yacht-Master 268621 has a 37mm stainless steel Oyster case. Tapered lugs with a lug to lug length of 43mm and a thickness of 11mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. A striking 18ct Everose Gold bi-directional bezel has high relief numerals marking out the 60-minutes and deep knurling for a satisfying grip. The flat sapphire crystal sits above a delicious rich chocolate brown dial. 18ct Everose gold discs and batons are coated in ultra-bright Chromalight luminescent. At 3 o’clock a date window with cyclops magnification on the crystal. Elegant Mercedes hands are infilled with Chromalight for excellent legibility in low light or dark situations. An incredibly surprising watch this Yacht-Master is, it has totally changed my opinion on case sizes, whilst I am fond of a smaller cased watch I always thought the Yacht-Master had to be 40mm, this has proven me wrong there. The way this watch wears is fantastic on the wrist, I have a 6 3/4inch wrist and find it wears great, plus at 37mm with 18mm lugs and a more substantial taper than the regular bracelet, it works perfectly for those who like a smaller watch. Plus the warm tone of the dial and the rose gold is just breathtaking on the wrist, especially when caught in direct light.
