Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Oris box and Papers. The watch comes paired on its original Oris 20mm fitted tropical rubber strap with a signed buckle. The watch is from March 2017 and is sold in worn condition, however, overall as you can see the watch is in great condition. The watch comes with our 12-Month Warranty.

The Watch

Oris was founded by Paul Cattin and George Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein.  They bought a factory and signed a contract with the mayor in 1904. Initially making pocket watches in 1925 they started to add bracelets to their pocket watches which soon transitioned into the wristwatch. By 1929, they had a total of six factories. At the end of the 1960s, Oris became one of the largest watch companies in the world, producing approximately 1.2 million timepieces a year. In 1982 Dr Rolf Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog led a management buyout from Swatch Group. Unhappy with the way the Group was running things. Oris SA was born as an independent Swiss watch brand. 2002 saw their distinctive Red Rotor become an Oris registered Trademark.

Unveiled in 2015 at Baselworld the Oris Divers Sixty-Five, a heritage lineup capturing the essence of the original, with the use of modern materials and movements to bring it up to date. Unlike the original, the case size is a more contemporary 40mm. A lug to lug length of 48mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a screw-down signed crown. The unidirectional stainless steel bezel has an aluminum 60-minute black insert. A domed sapphire crystal AR coated sits above a black dial with applied retro-styled 12,3,6 and 9 and baton indexes coated in SuperLuminova. At 6 o’clock we have a framed date window. Sword hands complemented by a lollipop sweeping second hand coated in SuperLuminova. Text is precisely printed at 12 and 6 respectively. On the reverse a screw-down case back with the Oris shield engraved in the center. Inside an Automatic Oris Cal. 733, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour based on the Sellita SW200-1. The watch comes fitted on its original Oris 20mm fitted tropical rubber strap with a signed buckle and comes with its Oris presentation Box & Papers.

Personal Note

A classic both in its vintage reference but also its modern reiteration here, rightfully so too as the design is fantastic and how this 40mm wears on the wrist is perfect! Plus I believe this tropic style strap by Oris to be the most comfortable and best made modern tropic, try it for yourself and let me know your thoughts!
