Rotary Watches Ltd was established at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by Moise Dreyfuss in 1895. By the 1920s family members, Georges and Sylvain Dreyfuss began importing Rotary watches to Britain, which was to become the company's most successful market.
We have here a Rotary Elite, but any ordinary Rotary Elite, this is a Sterling Silver cased "Tank" style Rotary Elite! This elegant case is reminiscent of a Cartier Tank Solo. On the white dial, the use of classic Roman numerals radiate for the hours, in bold black print making it very legible, a date window sits at 3 o’clock. Elegant Sword blue hands with a pencil-thin centre seconds hand, making a bold statement against the contrast of the white dial. Thus creating a perfect everyday wear piece, or perfect for more fancy occasions. The case back is clearly marked with Sterling silver and the relevant hallmarks. Inside we have a Swiss ETA quartz movement. Fitted on a Black leather 20mm strap complete with original signed Rotary buckle, along with a 20mm pastel blue WatchGecko leather strap.
Points of Mention
This watch is sold with its Original Rotary Box but has no Original Rotary Paperwork. The watch comes paired on a black leather strap with its original Rotary buckle, also provided is a pastel blue WatchGecko strap for variety. The watch is in worn condition with signs of wear, being cased in Sterling Silver it shows these marks more than a Stainless Steel watch would. The watch is from Circa. 1990s, no exact date, unfortunately, the watch has had its movement checked over and a fresh battery as well as a new crystal and a clean.
Absolutely adore this Rotary, when I first saw it I thought (Like most of you probably did) "Oh, it's a Rotary Elite", which it is! But upon looking that little bit further you notice the hallmarking on the case back, then in person, you can feel the heavier weight but also the very subtle tone difference to the metal, it's cased in Sterling Silver! This not only makes it quite rare, but it also makes it very special and a ton more than just a "Rotary Elite". This becomes a great affordable alternative to the Cartier Tank, not just a plain "Homage", but something a lot more.
