Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Zenith box or Zenith paperwork. The watch comes paired with its original Zenith bracelet Zenith clasp, plus swing tags. The watch is from Circa. 1980s and is in "New Old Stock" condition, however, the watch has been in storage for 40 odd years so may show storage marks. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

The Watch

Zenith was founded in 1865 by 22-year-old watchmaker Georges Favre-Jacot. Their manufacturing was based in Le Locle Switzerland. Famously Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, who was the first person to reach the South Pole in 1911 and the North Pole in 1926, wore Zenith watches on his expeditions. In 1999 Zenith was purchased by LVMH  (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) joining brands like TAG and Hublot. Zenith is one of the only Swiss manufacturers to still produce their own in-house movements. Their most recognised movement is the El Primero it was released in 1969, went into production in 1975 and was re-issued in 1986.

Here we have a NOS Zenith Quartz “Santos”, As you can see the watch is reminiscent and clearly inspired by the Cartier Santos-Dumont. Its elegant square 32mm brushed stainless steel case gently slopes towards the lugs. Its 37mm lug to lug length ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist. The bezel is gold plated with a screw in each corner very much like a porthole on a ship. The flat square crystal has chamfered corners. The creamy white dial has Roman numeral indexes marking the hours. A minute track runs around the centre of the dial. At 3 o’clock a date window. On the reverse a snap-on case back. Inside a collaboration between Zenith and Movado Quartz Zenith/Movado Cal. 11.5, it has a quick set date. Fitted on its original 18mm stainless steel bracelet with an interesting geometric patterning and a signed clasp.

Personal Note

When the opportunity to acquire 7 New Old Stock Zeniths came up I jumped at the opportunity, when they arrived it was difficult to even part with any of them! But here we are, this is a business and I can't keep everything despite how hard I try!
