The Watch

Seikos history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892 Seikosha was established making wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924 the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) established in 1937. Seiko listed on the Tokyo stock exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co. Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959).
Our 1976 Seiko 0843-8080 has a 36mm tonneau stainless steel case. Polished and brushed surfaces transition with crisp edges. A slim bezel holds a flat crystal above a white vertical texture pattern dial, reminiscent of the King Seiko Quartz of that time. Slender applied baton indexes have chamfered polished sides marking the hours. At 3 o’clock, a framed day/date with Kanji day. Slim baton hands are complemented with a tapered seconds hand. At 12 o’clock, an applied Seiko with Quartz printed below. At 6 o’clock, an applied Quartz logo signifying single crystal quartz and the lightning bolt indicating it was manufactured at the Daini Seikosha factory. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with a battery hatch for easy battery change. Inside a Seiko Quartz Cal. 0843, the movement was manufactured from 1974 until 1985. The watch comes fitted on an 18mm leather strap.

Personal Note

Still, a ton of value to be had with this 70s Seiko Quartz, they offer a lot of the charm that the same era Grand Seiko's do but a fraction of the price! Someone clearly agreed as it was taken before it even landed.
