The Watch
Formerly known as the La Generale Watch Co. it was founded by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. In 1903 they renamed the company Omega until 1982 when they officially changed their name to Omega SA. They are part of the Swiss Swatch Group.
Omega first applied "Genève" to its 30mm dress watch dials in 1953. This was to celebrate records set by their watches at the Geneva Observatory. By 1967 the name was put on many more models. They used the same high-quality movements as found in the Seamaster and Dynamic models. They were targeted towards the younger generation by using textured dials and represented a more value-orientated range. The Calvin factory in Geneva closed in 1972 and the name "Genève" finally disappeared on their dials in 1979. During this period the "Genève" models accounted for 60% of all Omega sales.
Our Omega "Genève" has a 36mm stainless steel case with polished and brushed surfaces, the case gently curves as one towards the lugs for a comfortable fit on the wrist. A signed crown sits on the right side. Its polished beveled bezel holds a domed original Omega signed crystal. This textured silver dial has a vertical satin finish. The applied steel indexes have a lume pip marking the hours. Thin baton hands have lume infill while the sweeping second hand is a fine needle. At 3 o'clock we have a date window. On the reverse a screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic Omega Cal. 1012, 23 Jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. Featuring quick set date and hacking functions. Fitted on an 18mm quick release leather strap.
Personal Note
These Omega Geneve has always been a great option for a new collector or new to vintage, they look fantastic and they are from such a great brand! Luckily they also come in many variations so you will find one that you like, I personally love this and the versatility it has on a strap works so well.
