Points of Mention

This watch is sold as watch only and therefore comes with no original Dugena box or original Dugena paperwork. The watch was serviced in 2018 and is running well, the watch will come with a 3-month warranty. The watch is vintage and therefore signs of wear will be seen, but overall it is in good condition.

The Watch

In 1917 Wilhelm Ulrich and the brothers Emil and Richard Rothmann experienced watchmakers and watch retailers, came together to form the Deutsche Uhrmacher-Genossenschaft Alpina (DUGENA). Dugena was the first brand to use a uniform advertising and shop window design across all its stores which by the 1970s amounted to 2000 stores making Dugena the most successful German watch brand at that time.

The chronograph is one of the most popular tool watches, Dugena has used a comfortable cushion case design which was classic of that era. The tropical brown dial has a Tachymeter around the outside, symmetrically positioned 2 sub-dials 60 seconds and 30-minute counters with an orange centre chronograph second hand. A date function at the 6 o'clock position completes the dial. The workhorse inside is the Valjoux 7734 possibly the most produced Swiss movement in the world. A manual wind 17 jewels with incabloc for shock absorption, beating at 18,000 BPH and a 40+ hour power reserve. To complete the racing appeal an 18mm Brown Leather Racing strap with white stitching has been put on the watch.

Personal Note

Design-wise this watch ticks the boxes, sure the brand might not exist anymore but that only adds to the charm and appeal of this watch in my opinion! I love the dial configuration and colour choice, it pops!
