Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Seiko box or original Seiko paperwork. The watch comes paired on an aftermarket, unsigned, jubilee bracelet with 18mm ends to make it fit with the design. The watch is in worn/vintage condition, therefore signs of wear will be seen. As you can see the case has been refinished expertly, few signs of previous wear can be seen, 2 small dings to the side profile of the crystal but not visible unless inspecting closely and also not cracks or affects the actual integrity of the crystal. The watch has been serviced and comes with a 6-month non-waterproof warranty.

The Watch

Actus was a sub-brand of Seiko much like the Alpinist or the Prospex brands are today. It was made for JDM (Japanese Domestic Market). The Actus variant had a higher jewelled movement and was marketed as “young, activity line”, compared to the standard Seiko 5. It had all the Seiko 5 attributes of automatic, waterproof, day, date and shock resistance. Dating from April 1970. This 40mm all stainless steel cushion case has polished sides and brushed top edges that softly merge together. Its polished bezel encircles a flat hardlex crystal that protects a silver dial, an outer minute track, slim baton indexes with polished edges. At 3 o’clock a framed day date which is both English and Kanji. Dauphine hands with polished edges add an elegant flourish to the sunburst dial. A recessed crown with a push-in quick set date and a screw-down case back gives it a waterproof rating of 30m but as with all vintage watches, I’d suggest staying away from any form of liquid. Inside we have an Automatic 6106 25 Jewels beating at 21600 beats per hour. Fitted on an 18mm leather strap and a jubilee bracelet.

Personal Note

The moment I saw this watch I had to acquire it, the design is beautiful and so fitting of the 1970s, the case size at 40mm is also large for its time with a 43mm lug to lug it wears super compact on the wrist! The Japanese date disc also adds a huge amount of charm to design, always love seeing that!
