The Watch
Here we have a 1967 Universal Geneve with a 30mm square stainless steel case with rounded corners for a sophisticated aesthetic, hidden lugs with a lug-to-lug length of 28.5mm and a case thickness of just 5.5mm ensure a comfortable fit on the wrist, on the right side, a signed crown. A thin stepped square bezel with rounded corners holds a flat crystal above a silver sunburst dial, applied baton indexes have bevel edges that play with the light as you rotate your wrist, and thin pencil hands complete this elegant two-hand dress watch. At 12 o’clock we have the Universal Geneve motif. On the reverse, a snap-off case back with the model details engraved onto it, inside a quality manually wound Universal Cal. 2-42, 17 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a Universal Geneve 20mm stainless steel bracelet with an attractive cross-hatch design and a seat-belt style signed clasp. The flow of the bracelet seamlessly sits on your wrist with its hidden lugs for an integrated aesthetic and can be easily adjusted by simply unclipping to release and slide to fit.
Personal Note
Universal Geneve is such an interesting brand with so many amazing references in their past, often I come across one I've never seen before and this model is one of those! The bracelet is amazing and super comfortable, especially with the gliding adjust meaning you can do slight adjustments if required throughout the day, or in my case to enjoy and let my wife enjoy a different day without the need for tools. If you are in the market for a vintage Universal Geneve, I'd seriously consider this.
The Brand
Universal Genève was founded in 1894 in Le Locle, Switzerland as Universal Watch, by two Horology students Ulysse-Georges Perret and Numa-Emile Descombes. By 1919 they had moved their operations to Geneva and renamed the brand Universal Genève. They have been owned by Stelux, a Hong Kong investment group, since 1989.
