The Watch

Rotary Watches Ltd was established at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by Moise Dreyfuss in 1895. By the 1920s family members, Georges and Sylvain Dreyfuss began importing Rotary watches to Britain, which was to become the company's most successful market.

Our 1960s Rotary Rotamatic Aquaplunge Devil Diver "666" has a 35.5mm stainless steel case. The name "Devil Diver" comes from the 666ft depth rating. Angled bevel-edged lugs with a lug to lug length of 42mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a signed crown. The friction fit stainless steel bezel has a black 60-minute scale insert with silver numerals. A domed crystal sits above a black dial. An outer minute track with painted baton indices marks the hours. Arabic numerals 12, 3, 6, and 9 and smaller 24-hour numerals underneath are painted in white.  Broad arrow hands complemented by an arrow point second hand all coated in luminescence. Text on the dial Rotary logo “Rotomatic'' at 12 o’clock and 17 Jewels Incabloc at 6 o’clock. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with Aquaplunge ``WATERPROOF 666 FEET (approx. 200 metres / 20 atm)" is etched in the center. Inside an automatic AS Cal. 1700/01, 17 jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. The watch comes with a Rotary box and is fitted on an 18mm leather strap.

Personal Note

Rotary is a brand that has gone unloved in the vintage world for too long, but I think people are starting to finally wake up to their value and realise modern Rotary and vintage couldn't be further away from each other. I'd highly recommend this watch if you are after a great-looking vintage diver with a ton of charm.
