Points of Mention

This watch is sold as watch only and therefore comes with no Nivada box or Nivada paperwork. The watch comes paired on an aftermarket brown leather strap with gold plated buckle. The watch is from Circa. 1960s and is in worn, vintage condition, but overall very good for a gold-plated watch of this age. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

The Watch

Nivada was founded in Grenchen Switzerland as early as 1879, but officially 1926 appears to be its actual foundation as in 1976 they celebrated their 50th anniversary. During the 1960s and 70s, they were not allowed to use their name in the USA due to its phonetically sounding similar to Movado, so they used Nivada Grenchen instead. In 2018, two entrepreneurs in watchmaking, Guillaume Laidet, and Remi Chabrat, have decided to revive the Nivada brand with its original legacy.

This 1960s Nivada Chronograph has a 36mm Gold plated round case. A lug to lug length of 45mm and a thickness of 13mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. Elegant beveled lugs taper and curve over your wrist. On the right side, we have the round pushers and a large crown. A flat bezel holds a domed crystal. The dial has an outer Tachymetre (in blue) and Telemetre (in red) scales. Tachymetre for speed and Telemetre scale for distance. A 60-minute track expertly printed, applied number “12” Arabic numeral with Baton indexes marking the hours. At 3 o’clock a 30-minute register and 60-minute continuous seconds at 9 o’clock. Fence hands have lume infill. A chronograph hand with a teardrop balance. The dial is nicely balanced and easy to read. On the reverse a stainless steel case back. Inside a Manually Wound Landeron 248, 17 Jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. Fitted on an 18mm leather strap.

Personal Note

Lia's second find for the business and what a find it is! This stunning 60s chronograph features all that we love about chronographs from that period! 36mm case, pump pushers, contrasting colours for the tachymeter scale... It's a real gem for an even better price!
