The Watch
In 1860, Jacques Didisheim, a descendant of an Alsatian family, founded a watchmaking workshop in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. Juvenia is named after his wife. Several years later, the manufacture was re-established in La Chaux-de-Fonds, this was an ideal location for developing the brand. In 1880 they became one of the first watchmaking houses to make ladies' watches. 1908 saw the introduction of a range of extra-flat movements which they manufactured in-house. In 1914 they showcased at the Swiss National Exhibition the world's thinnest watch at that time. It measured 9.5mm in diameter and 2.5mm in thickness. Over the years they have become famous for original and avant-garde designs. Their success continues with the opening of 2 Boutiques in Shanghai and Beijing in 2009.
This classic 9ct Gold Juvenia has a 33.5mm round case. Straight fine lugs gently curve over your wrist. An 8mm thickness and 40mm lug to lug length ensure a comfortable fit. The slim 9ct Gold bezel supports a domed crystal. A classic white dial has elegant line indexes. Its slim gold hands complete a very understated dress watch. It’s perfectly balanced and will compliment any occasion. On the reverse, a plain stainless steel snap-fit case back. Inside a Manually Wound Juvenia Cal. 604, 21 jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. Based on the Aurore-Villeret 423 caliber, who was part of the Swiss holding company Ebauches SA, later becoming ETA. The watch comes fitted on an 18mm leather strap. Comes with its original Juvenia presentation box.
Personal Note
An elegant and impressive watch that offers a ton of value, so much so that I had sold it before and when the owner asked if I'd be interested in buying it back I didn't hesitate! If this dial had a different name, like Piaget, it would have easily been 4/5x the price without question, that is what makes this watch such great value and I'll certainly be on the lookout for more.
