Just after the second world war, Hans Wilsdorf Founder of Rolex knew that the time had come to expand and give the Tudor brand a proper identity of its own. Thus, on 6 March 1946, he created the “Montres TUDOR S.A.” company, specialising in models for both men and women. Rolex guaranteed the technical, aesthetic, and functional characteristics, along with the distribution and after-sales service. The Tudor rose within a shield was meant to represent an invincible union of strength. Its robustness, elegant lines, and beauty of the design. In 1947 Tudor introduced the Oyster, their first waterproof watch, building on the success of the Rolex Oyster of the same period. In 1952, 26 Tudor Oyster Prince watches were included in the British scientific expedition to Greenland organized by the Royal Navy and sponsored by The Queen. This showed the world how robust Tudor Oyster watches were.
Our 1958/59 Tudor Oyster Royal 7934 has a 34mm round stainless steel Oyster case with tapered lugs. A lug to lug length of 40.5mm and a thickness of 10mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side, a Rolex signed screwed-down crown. The slim polished bezel holds a domed crystal above a crisp white dial. An outer minute track with gilt dart hour markers and gilt applied Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9. Gilt lance hands with luminescence and a fine thermally blued tapered sweeping center seconds hand complete the dial. Text on the dial is precisely printed. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside a Manually Wound Tudor Cal. 1156, 17 jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a later Tudor 19mm stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp. A nice inclusion is the Tudor red box (hinges broken) with Tudor by Rolex on the inside.
Points of Mention
This watch is sold with its original Tudor "By Rolex" red box, hinges are broken, no paperwork is provided with the watch. The watch comes paired with an original later-period Tudor folded link Oyster bracelet with a signed clasp. The watch is from Circa. 1958/59 and is sold in worn, vintage condition, but overall very fair condition for its age. The dial has been refinished at some point in its past, the hands have been relumed at some point in its past. The watch comes with our 12-Months Non-Waterproof Warranty.
It is getting harder and harder to find these vintage Tudor Oysters in good condition and not ruined, whilst this one has had its dial refinished at some point in its past, it's been done well, and honestly, it is still a fantastic example. Plus, if you have ever worn any Oyster case Rolex or Tudor you will know that the way they wear on the wrist is always larger than their dimensions have you believe, that makes this 34mm super comfortable and looking larger than it is.
