The Watch
Here we have a 1954 Tissot Visodate Automatic Waffle Dial 6918-3 with a curvy 34.5mm stainless steel case, thick drilled lugs have a satisfying taper with a lug-to-lug length of 42.5mm and a case thickness of 11mm ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a signed hexagonal crown. A smooth bevel-edged bezel holds a domed crystal above a charismatic waffle dial, applied gold-toned dagger and Arabic 12, 6 and 9 indexes mark the hours, and at 3 o'clock a framed date window, elegant gold-toned dauphine hands complemented by a tapered second hand. At 12 o'clock we have an applied Tissot motif with "Visodate" in a stylish font underneath, at 6 o'clock "Automatic" completes this outstanding vintage dress watch. On the reverse a screw-down case back, inside an automatic Tissot Cal. 28.5R-621, 17 jewels, 19,600 beats per hour, this quality movement was produced from 1952 until 1962. The watch comes fitted on an 18mm quick-release suede strap.
Personal Note
This is easily one of the nicest vintage Tissots we have had in some time, the case is fantastic, and the waffle dial and honest patina are stunning, it's just a hidden gem! Interestingly what I got really excited about was the crown, first time I'd seen this crown, silly how the little things are what you end up getting excited about. This is one not to sleep on, the perfect vintage Tissot for any collection.
The Brand
The Swiss luxury watch company Tissot from Le Locle, Switzerland, was established in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. Under Charles-Emile’s direction, they manufactured pocket watches with parts from Russia and the United States. In 1915, the company began producing wristwatches. In 1930 Tissot created the world's first Non-Magnetic wristwatch. Between 1920 and 1977, Tissot produced its own movements. In 1930 to survive the 1929 crash and economic crisis they entered into an agreement with Omega to form the SSIH Group which 53 years later became the Swatch Group. In 1954 the Visodate was created.
