The Watch
Here we have a 1950s Movado 95 Chronograph with a 35mm 14ct Gold case made by the famous watch case makers FB- Francois Borgel, who also designed the Patek Philippe 1463 case, elegant tapered drilled lugs with a lug-to-lug length of 42.5mm and a case thickness of 13mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. Down the right side, we have the piston chronograph pushers and a domed crown in the centre. A stepped smooth bezel holds a domed crystal above a dynamic dial with a charming patina, an outer minute track is precisely executed with golden-coloured small Arabic numerals, applied pips and Arabic numeral indexes mark the hours, at 3 o’clock we have a 60-minute register, at 6 o’clock a 12-hour register and finally at 9 o’clock the continuous seconds register each slightly recessed with concentric circular patternation. Elegant golden-coloured Alpha hands are complemented by a tapered chronograph hand, and at 12 o’clock we have the Movado motif. On the reverse a screw-down case back that has the set of hallmarks and makers stamps on the inside, the movement is protected by a dust cover, a quality in-house Manually Wound Movado Cal. 95 chronograph movement, use the bottom pusher to start and stop and the top pusher to reset, the opposite of what we are used to. The watch comes fitted on a period correct made in the USA Hadley Gold capped/plated bracelet with a patented clasp glide ratchet system, to engage you to clip down the clasp and then push the clasp along.
Personal Note
What an incredible example of a Movado 95, cased in solid 14ct gold by none other than Francois Borgel! A legendary case maker whose work is instantly recognisable from the lugs to the case back, this Movado is truly special. This is one for the serious collector, someone who admires FB and Movado and has likely been after one for some time, but waiting for that special example, well look no further, you've found it!
