The Watch
Fludo founded in 1934 by Fluvius Boillat in Breuleux, Switzerland. They exported throughout Europe, Asia, and North America in the 1950s. In 1987 the brand sadly disappeared. But in 2011, Manuel Rodrigues, a Swiss watchmaker, found the brand and decided to revive it. Today they have an online store, providing watches worldwide.
Our Fludo Chronograph dates from the 1950s. It has a round polished 36mm chrome case. Tapered lugs gently curve over your wrist. A lug to lug length of 44mm and a thickness of 13mm ensures a comfortable fit. Pump pushers and a large coin-edged crown can be found down the right side. The domed mineral crystal sits above a white dial. An outer Tachymeter scale in blue print and a 60-second scale in black print, finely printed. Arabic numeral indices mark the hours. At 3 o’clock, a 30 minutes register; at 9 o’clock, a 60 seconds register. Syringe hands, thermally blued, complemented with a tapered chronograph hand, complete this outstanding bicompax chronograph. On the reverse, a screw-down stainless steel case back. Inside a Manually Wound Landeron 51, 17 jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. This movement was based on the Landeron 48 and was in production from 1937 until 1970. They produced an incredible 3.5 million chronograph movements. The watch comes fitted on a 19mm leather strap.
Personal Note
There will always be something aesthetically pleasing about a simple and well-executed bi-compax chronograph from the 50s... Especially in this case size, it wears beautifully, looks incredible on the wrist, and provides a ton of value for a vintage Chronograph! Not breaking the bank is always a plus.
