Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Rotary box or paperwork. The watch comes paired on a well-suited black leather NATO strap. The watch is from Circa. 1960s and is sold in worn, vintage condition, patina, and age can be seen throughout the watch. The watch comes with its original Manufacturer Warranty.

The Watch

Rotary Watches Ltd was established at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by Moise Dreyfuss in 1895. By the 1920s family members, Georges and Sylvain Dreyfuss began importing Rotary watches to Britain, which was to become the company's most successful market.

This RARE 1960s Rotary 1042 has a characteristic 35.5mm polished stainless steel compressor case. The Super Compressor watch case was created and patented in 1956 by Ervin Piquerez SA (EPSA). The patent design enables the case back to press against the O-Ring gasket increasing its water resistance the deeper you descend. A lug to lug length of 44mm and a thickness of 11mm gives the watch an excellent wrist presence. Polished surfaces transition towards the thick lugs. On the right side, you have two crowns, one to adjust the inner bezel and the other to adjust the hands and date. A double domed crystal sits proud of the black dial. An inner rotating bezel rotates in both directions. Arabic 12, 6, and 9 with the baton indexes mark the hours all coated in Tritium luminescence. At 3 o’clock a date framed window. Long baton hands complemented by a tapered center seconds hand, coated in Tritium. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic ETA 2452, 21 jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a 19mm NATO strap.

Personal Note

One that I have had hidden away in the personal collection for some time, when this watch first came to me I spent days searching the internet and trying to find out what I could... I could not find another example anywhere and I challenge you to find one too, whether for sale, previously sold, on advertisements, mentioned in a forum, anywhere...
