Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Record box or paperwork. The watch comes paired with an aftermarket blue suede strap, the original swing tag is attached. The watch is from the Circa. 1970s and is sold in virtually unworn condition, as you can see from the photos, any marks are from storage over the years. This watch will be serviced on purchase, meaning once purchased the watch will be handed to our watchmaker and finished within 1/2 weeks, we apologise for any delays but with a truly new old stock watch, we want to do it as it sells. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

The Watch

Record was founded in 1903 in Tramelan, Switzerland, as the Record Dreadnought S.A. Producing triangular shaped pocket watches. In 1944, the first watches with hammer automatic movements were introduced, rotor automatics were later introduced in 1952. Record was one of the ‘Dirty Dozen’ watches selected by the British military to make ‘W.W.W.’ watches for their soldiers in WWII; these were delivered in 1945. Longines acquired Record in 1961, buying the majority shares interest. In 1991 Record sadly closed after Longines became part of the Swatch Group.

Our New Old Stock 1970s Record Automatic has a 40mm rectangular cushion case in brushed stainless steel. Its rounded edges are brushed with a lug to lug length of 46mm and a thickness of 11mm providing a comfortable fit on the wrist. On the right side, a signed crown. The curves and finish are reminiscent of the curves on the 1970s Porsche 911. The midsection of the case is slightly recessed for a design quintessentially 1970s. The flat crystal sits proud of the case with bevelled edges. The deep blue dial has double baton indexes marking the hours. At 3 o’clock a date window. Broad baton hands with lume infill replicating the indexes complemented by a white tapered centre seconds hand. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic Record Cal. 1955-2 (Longines Cal. 505), 17 jewels, 19,800 beats per hour. The movement features a sweeping seconds hand, a quick-set date by repeatedly pushing in the crown. The watch comes fitted on its original 20mm blue suede strap with original tags.

Personal Note

If only I could keep them all... This insanely beautiful blue dialled Record just sits so well on the wrist, whilst it isn't a small watch it really is unapologetically 1970s in its design! Plus I think the blue suede pairing works super well, a nice brown would also work well and tone it down slightly.
