The Watch

Seiko's history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892 Seikosha was established making wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924 the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) established in 1937. Seiko listed on the Tokyo stock exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co. Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959).

The Seahorse was Seiko’s first waterproof watch, released in 1961. The 35mm stainless steel case gently curves over your wrist. The lug to lug length of 43mm and a thickness of 10mm ensures a comfortable fit. A slim polished bezel holds a domed mineral crystal sitting above a white dial. Applied double baton indexes mark the hours reflecting the light as you rotate your wrist. Elegant Dauphine's hands complete this striking dial. At 6 o’clock “Seiko Sportsman”, “Seahorse Diashock”. On the reverse, a screw-down case back,  in the center a Seahorse, with the model details around it. Inside a Manually Wound Seiko Cal. 66A, 17 jewels, 18,000 beats per hour.  The watch comes fitted on an 18mm leather strap.

Personal Note

It is no secret I adore a vintage Seiko, especially when they are as great as this one! The size is a plus as it wears beautifully and comes in the perfect dimensions for those deep into vintage or those starting to dip their feet in... The design is great and simple, but the star of the show is having that awesome Seahorse on the case back and it is still being nice and visable!
