Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Garrard box, but no paperwork is present. The watch comes paired on an aftermarket vintage style dark brown leather strap. The dial has developed an even patina throughout, the hands are also original. The case is in original condition and being in 9ct gold it does have some signs of wear, the case back and engraving is in good condition. The movement does come with the KibbleWatches 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

The Watch

George Wickes founded Garrard in London in 1735. Its Headquarters can be found on Albemarle Street in Mayfair. They created fine jewellery, silver and watches. Queen Victoria made them the first Crown Jeweller of the UK. They were responsible for the upkeep of the British Crown Jewels from 1843 to 2007. They are world-famous for creating America's Cup trophy in 1848. The Royal family has many crowns and tiaras made by Garrard. In 2006 they were acquired by the US equity firm Yucaipa companies. Today they have a presence all over the world including Harrods in London, bricks and mortar Jewellers in Geneva, Moscow and Hong Kong. Garrard receives commissions from many companies and organisations to provide timepieces with personalised inscriptions on them.

This elegant 9ct yellow gold Garrard has a 33.5mm case with tapering lugs. The slim profile leads to an elegant fit on the wrist. Its stepped bezel holds a domed crystal. The two-tone dial has gold applied Arabic numerals and arrowhead indexes for the hours. Slim Alpha Gold hands are complimented with a recessed sub-seconds at 6 o’clock. On the right side, it's button crown large enough to make adjustment and winding a pleasure. On the reverse an engraved inscription “W. Warren In appreciation of 30 years loyal service May 1961 Ford”. Its screw-down case back protects a Manually Wound 18 Jewel Smiths 1218 for Garrard. Fitted on an 18mm leather strap.

Personal Note

I typically try to avoid engraving on watches, but when an engraving is as cool as this and represents what a company used to do for its long-serving employees, it is pretty cool. Plus... Seeing that Ford logo etched into a case back in such a beautiful way is fantastic!
