This watch is sold as a full set and comes with its original Breitling box and original Breitling paperwork. The watch is in worn condition but as you can see from the photos it is in overall great condition, few signs of wear. The watch is running well as you would expect, it was purchased in October 2017.
The Watch
Named after the Kelly John designed Mach 3 stealth aircraft, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, it was in service from 1966 until 1998. Breitling first introduced the Avenger Blackbird in 1996, this 2017 Special Edition has a 44mm case made of brushed Titanium coated in a black carbon-based treatment giving its stealthy appearance. Based on the Chronomat It has a self-winding mechanical movement with the designation B 17 (base movement is ETA 2824-2). This mechanism is made with 25 jewels and has a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour. It is a C.O.S.C. certified chronometer movement that includes ¼ of the second chronometer. The striking rotating bezel rotates in both directions, has recessed minute markings with a lume pip at 12 o’clock position. Sapphire crystal protects the dial with glare-proof AR coating on both sides. The use of large fence hands and large hour markers make the dial very legible. A date window sits at the 3 o’clock position. The watch features a screw-down case back and crown which gives the watch 200m/660ft water resistance. Fitted with a military-style Anthracite strap made of highly durable high-tech fabric.
Personal Note
Certainly not to every collector taste but damn is it cool on the wrist! Whilst large at 44mm the all-black look allows it to wear a little smaller but also suits the larger look being all black, the strap helps it wrap around the wrist and wear comfortably even on a smaller wrist like mine.
