Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Seiko Box & Paperwork. The watch comes paired on its original stainless steel Seiko bracelet with its Seiko signed clasp, all spare links included. The watch is from October 2015 and is sold in worn condition, but overall fair condition as you can see, some scratches can be seen on the crystal and bezel. The watch comes with our 12-Months Warranty.

The Watch

Seikos history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892 Seikosha was established to make wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924 the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) was established in 1937. Seiko was listed on the Tokyo stock exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co., Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959). In 1956 Seiko launched Marvel as their first true in-house made watch; they continued to make this watch until 1959. Japan’s first chronograph watch was introduced for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics; it was called the Seiko Crown Chronograph monopusher. Not stopping there Seiko launched Japan's first true divers watch the Seiko Diver’s 150M fitted with the automatic Calibre 6217 which later was given the nickname “62MAS” by collectors. The company name was changed to the Seiko Corporation in 1990. Innovation at Seiko continues today with GPS Solar watches.

Here we have a 2015 Seiko Sumo Blue (nicknamed the Blumo) SBDC033 this is a 1st generation which is Pre-Prospex. First introduced in 2007 they were the first divers to house the 6R15 movement. The 44.5mm polished and brushed angular stainless steel case curves over your wrist with drilled lugs. Its aggressive profile has a lug to lug length of 52mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a screw-down crown at 4 o’clock. The unidirectional stainless steel dive bezel has a blue insert with silver numerals. A flat Hardlex crystal sits above the deep blue dial. An outer minute chapter ring with lume pips at the hours. Applied disc and trapezoid indexes mark the hours coated in Seiko proprietary luminance giving off its characteristic glow when charged. At 3 o’clock a framed date window. Broad sword hands coated in the same luminance complemented by a counterweighted sweeping second hand. Text “Seiko” is applied at 12 o’clock with “Automatic SCUBA 200m” at 6 o’clock. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the Seiko Tsunami engraved in the centre. Inside an Automatic Seiko Cal. 6R15, 23 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on its Seiko 20mm Stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp and also comes with its Seiko presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

For the money most Seiko dive watches are hard to beat, this reference is no exception! Built incredibly well, reliable movement and looks fantastic on the wrist even at its larger size and will no doubt surprise most of you! I'd book an appointment to come and try it on for yourself if you're in doubt.
