The Watch

Here we have a 2015 Omega De Ville Hour Vision Co-Axial 431.33.41.21.03.001 with a 40.5mm polished stainless steel and unusually sapphire crystal sides of the case, these curved sapphire crystal sides provide a window into the movement from all angles in combination with the sapphire crystal exhibition case back. Thick tapered lugs curve over your wrist with a lug to lug length of 49mm and a case thickness of 12mm ensuring a comfortable fit. On the right side is a signed crown and a slightly domed sapphire crystal AR coated on both sides sits above a stunning sunburst blue dial. An outer minute track is precisely executed with Arabic numerals. with raised concentric circular rings have chamfered indexes marking the hours, creating interest and depth to the striking dial each element play's perfect with the light as you rotate your wrist. At 3 o'clock a framed date window and elegant 18ct White Gold hands are complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand. At 12 o'clock an applied Omega motif underneath at 6 o'clock we have "De Ville" "Co-Axial Chronometer". On the reverse a sapphire crystal exhibition case back, inside an automatic Omega Co-Axial 850, 39 jewels, 25,200 beats per hour. Introduced in 2007 it's Co-Axial Escapement gives the movement greater durability, stability and precision and the rotor is decorated with Geneva waves. The watch comes fitted on its original Omega 20mm leather strap with a signed fold-over clasp and also comes with its Omega presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

It's incredible to think that this watch didn't sell particularly well for Omega at retail, I believe that this is why you very rarely see this reference come up pre-owned and just not that many got sold in the first place. It feels like a hidden gem among the modern Omega watches to me, one we will look back on and wonder how we missed it?

The Brand

Formerly known as the La Generale Watch Co. it was founded by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. In 1903 they renamed the company Omega until 1982 when they officially changed their name to Omega SA. During WW1 Omega watches were used as official timekeepers for the Royal Flying Corps and the US Army. After stringent tests, NASA used Omega for all their Apollo missions including the 1969 Moon landing of Apollo 11. Today Omega is still an astronaut's first choice of timepiece. They are part of the Swiss Swatch Group. In 1967 Omega launched the De Ville as a stand-alone line. Much more streamlined, variety, and younger feel than the Seamaster, it soon became Omega’s best-selling collection.
