The Watch

Here we have a curvaceous 2009 Cartier Ballon Bleu Quartz W6900256, introduced in 2007; its name means “blue balloon” and refers to the crown at 3 o’clock that appears to float magically within a protective bubble. Thanks to the integrated leather strap, it has a 28mm 18ct Rose Gold “Au 750” round convex case that flows effortlessly over your wrist. Its soft, rounded flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 29mm and a case thickness of just 8.5mm, ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist. The beautiful case shape integrates a fluted crown capped with a blue sapphire cabochon. A slightly curved sapphire crystal follows the distinctive contours of the case above a stunning lacquered silver opaline dial. Large Roman numeral indexes mark the hours surrounding an inner minute track, and elegant blue steel sword hands sit majestically in the centre. At 12 o’clock, the Cartier motif completes this beautifully sculpted dress watch. On the reverse, a vertically brushed 18ct Rose Gold (Au 750) screwed-down case back engraved with the details of the watch, inside a quality Quartz movement. It comes paired with a 7.5mm integrated Cartier leather strap with an 18ct Rose Gold (Au 750) pin buckle. The watch comes with its Cartier presentation box and paperwork, including 2022 Cartier Service paperwork.

Personal Note

This Cartier Ballon Bleu 18ct rose gold, reference W6900256, in 28mm, is the perfect Cartier for all occasions. Paired with the wonderful brown strap it is currently on, it can be worn casually as well as formally whilst oozing class. For those in the know, the smooth, rounded case profile and signature blue cabochon crown make it instantly recognisable. The Quartz movement allows for easy use and the ability to pick up and go. I would not hesitate to add this wonderful gem to your collection today, whilst you can!

The Brand

In 1847, Louis-Francois Cartier founded Cartier in Paris, France. He quickly established himself by catering to the elites in society. In 1903, they created their first men's wristwatch, inspired by his pilot friend Alberto Santos-Dumont, who called it the Santos. Just 4 years later, in 1907, Cartier began a partnership with Edmond Jaeger of the prominent watch brand Jaeger-LeCoultre. Jaeger agreed to be the exclusive supplier of movements for Cartier watches. In 1917, they debuted the Tank. Their watches were so popular that copies soon appeared to counteract this. Cartier introduced reference numbers to each watch. In 1919, they introduced the Tank, which was inspired by the robust American tank used in the First World War. It has been famously worn by many over the years, including Andy Warhol, Alain Delon, Clarke Gable, Catherine Deneuve, and Duke Ellington. The early watches were all handmade in France, with movements by Jaeger. In 1972, a group of investors led by financial wizard Joseph Kanoui bought the company. In 1973, we saw the first “Must de Cartier” boutique open in Biarritz, followed by one in Singapore. During the 1980s, they acquired several non-jewellery businesses, such as Beaume et Mercier in 1988 and Piaget and Alderbert in 1989. Today, Cartier is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont Group that includes IWC, Montblanc, and Vacheron Constantin.
