The Watch

This collector's set 2002 Heuer Carrera GMT 1964 Re-Edition WS2113 celebrates the introduction of the Carrera 3648 in 1964 by Jack Heuer; it is part of the Heuer Classics range and is the re-edition of the Carrera 3648. The polished 35.5mm stainless steel case has bevel-edged tapered angular lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 43.5mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, a signed crown. A slim bezel holds a domed plexiglass crystal, the glossy black dial has a white outer minute chapter ring, printed Arabic, 24-hour numerals, run around the outer edge with applied steel Arabic numerals and batons marking the hours. At 3 o’clock, a date window. Sword hands with lume infill, tapered seconds hand and a GMT hand with red triangle, making it easy to read. At 12 o’clock, the Heuer logo and at 6 o’clock GMT Automatic finished off this classic dial and traveller companion. On the reverse, Heuer is engraved in the centre with the reference numbers below, inside an automatic ETA 2893-2, 21 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, the movement has the quickest date, and GMT functions when you pull the crown out to position 1, turn clockwise/forward to adjust the GMT, and counter-clockwise/backward to adjust the date. The watch comes on a 19mm black Italian leather strap with a signed buckle and comes with its Heuer Classics box, leather travel case and paperwork.

Personal Note

This Heuer has really blown me away, from a time when TAG Heuer certainly wasn't doing their best work, yet this incredible timepiece came out of that same era. The size is perfect and on the wrist, this really hits a sweet spot, especially with the GMT function as the cherry on top. The simplicity of the design is the highlight, you'll struggle to find a better-rounded GMT for a price like this at this size that's for sure, so snap this example up today with its Box & Papers!

The Brand

Edouard Heuer founded The Heuer Watch Company in 1860 in St. Imier, Switzerland. Edouard invented the oscillating pinion, which is still used in today's chronographs. In 1963, Jack Heuer designed the Carrera. With the assistance of Willy Breitling, they shared the development costs for the Calibre 11 in 1969, the first self-winding chronograph. Heuer was purchased by the TAG Group in 1985, changing their name to TAG Heuer. Later, TAG Heuer was bought by Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH).
