The Watch

Mr. Georges Schaeren founded Mido in Switzerland in 1918. His first watches represented car radiators in shape and were advertised as the motorist's watch. One made in Platinum was given to the King of Spain in 1927. Today, Mido is a part of the Swatch Group; its headquarters is in Le Locle, Switzerland.

Our 1980s Mido Commander Automatic has a 40.5mm Elliptical stainless steel case. The lugs are covered by the curve of the case. A lug to lug length of 39mm and a thickness of 11mm ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist. It has all the design cues that were very popular during the 1970s. On the right side, a recessed signed crown. A fine bezel holds a flat crystal. The grey dial has an elliptical light grey minute track with broad batons at 12, 3, 6, and 9 and painted batons between. At 3 o’clock a day/date window. Steel baton hands have lume infill at their tips. At 9 o’clock an applied “MIDO” and at 6 o’clock an applied “Commander”. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic ETA 2836-2, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The movement has hand winding and quick-set date functionality. The watch comes fitted on a 20mm MIDO stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Mido box or paperwork. The watch comes paired on its original stainless steel Mido signed bracelet with its Mido signed clasp, the bracelet will fit a 6 3/4inch wrist. The watch is from Circa. 1980s and is sold in worn, vintage condition, but overall very fair condition as you can see. The watch comes with our 12-Months Non-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

A watch that just owns its design and won't apologise for it, I admire it for that and would wear this watch happily! I've said it before and I'll say it again, vintage Mido are massively underrated and incredibly valued at the moment but I don't believe they will stay there too much longer as people wake up to them!
