The Watch

Seikos history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892 Seikosha was established, making wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924 the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) was established in 1937. Seiko was listed on the Tokyo stock exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co. Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959).
Here we have a striking Rare 1975 Seiko King Quartz 5856-5000 with a 34.5mm textured stainless steel case. The case has chamfered edges that cover the lugs with seamless lines. A lug to lug length of 40.5mm and a thickness of 9.5mm that will comfortably fit on your wrist. On the right side is a signed crown. The stepped bezel holds a flat crystal about a blue textured on the right-side dial. As you rotate your wrist, the dial sparkles reminiscent of a light sprinkling of snow. A domed sapphire crystal protects the dial batons; indexes mark the hours at 3 o’clock a day/date framed with Kanji days. Slender sword hands are complemented by a tapered second hand. At 12 o’clock an applied Seiko with text underneath precisely printed. At 6 o’clock we have the applied high-grade quartz symbol and Daini Seikosha factory symbol. On the reverse, you have the screwed hatch for easy battery replacement inside a Seiko Quartz Cal. 5856, 6 jewel high-grade quartz movement. The watch comes fitted on its original 19mm Seiko textured stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp.

Personal Note

One I wish I could keep, but I've got to get better at letting go of even the ones I love otherwise I'll have a bigger collection than the stock we have available for sale! The dial is stunning, it does have a few marks here and there, but it's honest and it's beautiful, the way it wears is far larger than the dimensions would have you believe too so don't be shy with it!
