The Watch

Formerly known as the La Generale Watch Co. it was founded by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. In 1903 they renamed the company Omega until 1982 when they officially changed their name to Omega SA. During WW1 Omega watches were used as official timekeepers for the Royal Flying Corps and the US Army. After stringent tests, NASA used Omega for all their Apollo missions including the 1969 Moon landing of Apollo 11. Today Omega is still an astronaut's first choice of timepiece. They are part of the Swiss Swatch Group.

Omega first applied "Genève" to its 30mm dress watch dials in 1953. This was to celebrate records set by their watches at the Geneva Observatory. By 1967 the name was put on many more models. They used the same high-quality movements as found in the Seamaster and Dynamic models. Omega targeted the "Genève" towards the younger generation by using textured dials and representing a more value-orientated range. The Calvin factory in Geneva closed in 1972 and the name "Genève" finally disappeared on their dials in 1979. During this period the "Genève" models accounted for 60% of all Omega sales.

Our 1973 Omega "Genève" 166.0191 has a 36mm stainless steel case with a satin-brushed finish and rounded lugs that fit the integrated bracelet. Its design is unapologetically 1970s. On the right side sits a signed crown. The raised flat crystal protects a silver sunray textured dial. The applied chamfered edged indexes mark the hours. Chamfered edges on its hands have lume infill. Complemented with a needle sweeping seconds hand. At 3 o’clock a date window. Text is minimal with Omega, Automatic, and "Genève". On the reverse a screw-down case back with the Omega engraved into the center. Inside we have an Automatic Omega Cal. 1012, 23 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, and features hacking and quick set date functions for your convenience. Fitted on its original integrated Omega bracelet with a satin-brushed finish and a signed folding clasp with micro-adjustments to fit your wrist.

Personal Note

We have sold multiple integrated bracelet design Omega's over the years and the Geneve has always been one of the most affordable ones yet is arguably one of the nicest with its unique case shape complemented with a dial shape to match, you often see round dials with cushion cases and this really looks fantastic on the case shape.
