The Watch

The Zenith Elprimero movement was first introduced in 1969 and is considered one of the worlds best and most accurate movements. This striking Blue version known by collectors as “Big Blue” has the very 70s almost square TV screen at  42mm. Zenith Introduced the 01-0200-415 in 1972 it had a limited production run of 4950 pieces in total until 1978. All stainless steel it has 2 long pushers acting as crown guards a clever idea. Mineral crystal protects a deeply recessed blue dial, each subdial is framed with white making them easy to read. A Tachymetre runs on a sloped inner bezel, just like the racing ovals of indy car. You have a 60 second at 9 o’clock,30 minutes at 3 o’clock and a 12 hour at 6 o’clock. Inside we have the legendary Automatic Zenith El-Primero Cal.3019PHC 31 jewels beating at 36,000 beats per hour.  A date window sits at 4 o’clock. Baton markers and slim Baton hands make it a truly sporting watch. Fitted with an integrated stainless steel bracelet tapering from 30mm down to 18mm with a signed double-fold clasp.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Zenith box but comes with no paperwork, the watch comes paired on its original Zenith bracelet with folding clasp. The watch is in good cosmetic condition with signs of wear for its age, the crystal has a few marks as photographed and the crystal gasket has become a little discoloured. There is no known service history but the timekeeping is great, the minute chronograph dial hand isn't centrally aligned and the date doesn't change bang on midnight. All points needing mention, but it is priced competitively.

Personal Note

Anyone who knows me will know that I have a serious soft spot for Zenith, especially this model! I have owned a 1970s Zenith Defy for nearly 2 years now, that watch is incredibly similar to this one without the Chronograph and a black dial, same bracelet design and similar case shape. When I first saw this El Primero model a few years ago it became a grail for me, unfortunately, this one came at a time where my spare cash isn't there for a personal purchase! So it gets to go to one of you lucky gits first haha!
