The Watch

Oris was founded in 1904 by two men, Paul Cattin and Georges Christian. The name comes from a brook in the Swiss town of Hölstein, in a short period they became the largest employer in Hölstein. By 1929, they had a total of six factories. At the end of the 1960s, Oris became one of the world’s largest watch companies, producing approximately 1.2 million timepieces a year.

Our 1970s Oris Star ChronOris Cal. 725 has a 38mm tonneau chrome plated case. Introduced in 1970. The case curves towards the lugs with a lug to lug length of 41.5mm and a thickness of 12.5mm gives the watch an excellent wrist presence. On the right side, we have a single pusher for the chronograph, a signed crown in the center, and a crown to adjust the inner bezel. The single pusher arrangement resembles and operates like the Omega Chronostop of the same time period. A domed crystal sits above a sunburst dial. Its 60-minute rotating bezel surrounds the applied baton indexes that mark the hours. At 3 o’clock a framed date window. Broad sword hands have lume tips complemented by an orange chronograph hand. Text is precisely printed. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside a Manually Wound Oris Cal. 725, 17 jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. This movement was designed by Dubois-Depraz, famous for its chronograph modules used in many brands. The watch comes fitted on its 18mm Oris stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no Oris box or paperwork, an original Oris instruction manual is provided. The watch comes paired with its original Oris signed bracelet with a signed clasp, the clasp is tight and can be loosened on request. The watch is from Circa. 1970s and is sold in worn, vintage condition, as you can see from the photos signs of wear and age can be seen, but the watch is in all original condition. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

I am a huge fan of ChronOris and believe it offers a ton of value for what it is, especially when you compare it with other single-button chronographs on the market. This is a chrome case which brings down the price, but as long as they are looked after they still maintain all their charm as you can see with this one. With an 18mm lug width, the strap options are truly endless if you are not a fan of the bracelet!
