Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Zenith box or paperwork. The watch comes paired with a well-suited leather strap. The watch is from Circa. 1970 and is sold in worn, vintage condition, wear is visible but overall it is very fair for its age. The watch comes with our 12-Months Non-Waterproof Warranty.

The Watch

Founded in 1865 by Georges Favre-Jacot at 22 in Le Locle Switzerland. In November 1999 they were purchased by LVMH Group joining brands like TAG Heuer and Hublot. They continue to manufacture their own in-house movements. Over the years Zenith has won over 2300 awards for precision.

Here we have a classic 1970 Zenith 9ct Gold Dress Watch. The round 31mm 9ct Gold case has elegant tapered lugs. A lug to lug length of 38.5mm and a thickness of just 8.5mm ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist. On the right side, a signed crown. A flat bezel holds a domed crystal above a white dial. Gold applied Arabic numerals to mark the hours. At 6 o’clock a sub-seconds register. Slender gold sword hands complete this simple sophisticated dress watch. On the reverse, an engraved “J. Dowd in appreciation of 25 years service with the W.M Park & Co Forgemasters Ltd. Group.  The company was established in 1787 in Wigan they specialised in forging spades and shovels as well as roof props for mines. Interestingly their pattern makers made a fully working “Flying Flea” plane (designed by a Frenchman Henri Mignet, in 1934) for Brian Park who was the son of the owner and an amateur pilot. The company closed in 1979. The watch comes fitted on a 16mm leather strap.

Personal Note

Engravings on watches aren't for everyone and as dealers, we often look to buy without them on or have them removed, but it seems the market is changing and more and more people are getting into having more of a personal story on their watch, an unknown story for the most part but a glimpse of life this watch had before.
